love my mom.

a couple weeks ago we went away and mom came by to visit jake. a few days after we got home i noticed a little heart shaped picture frame with a picture of me and mand from approximately 1994. i burst out laughing because it was so random and because it took me like 5 days to even notice it. we've been home for weeks now and i just went upstairs to retrieve something out of the nursery [yes, we call one of our bedrooms a nursery. no, this is not an announcement. the people who lived here before us had a nursery in there, we still refer to it as the nursery. fyi: the 3rd room is brandon's room, even though brandon no longer lives here.] and peaking out from behind a picture frame on the wall was a photobooth picture. and it's amazing. so amazing i am sharing it with you. on the back is written: class field trip to SeaBreeze Marla & Mom 5th grade 1990.

some amazing things about this:
my face in the 1st photo.
my mom is beautiful.
my hair is ridiculous.
we each did a single photo.
our sunglasses.

love my mom.

did you know you can watch full episodes on hgtv?
it's true.
is there really any need for tv anymore?
justin and i are seriously considering loosing the tube.
we don't have cable and i seriously can't remember the last time we even turned on the tv. did you know that by the age of 65 the average american has spent nearly 9 years watching tv. 9 years.

summer=county fair

i know i'm not a resident of orleans county. but there's just something about the orleans county fair. the mammoth pie tin. the prayer tent. the farm animals. the grease pole. it's simply small town fabulous. and i always see family there. showing their stubborn cows.

very entertaining.

and there's always fair food...

fair taffy - a summer highlight.

as you can see we had a very nutritious dinner.
i love western ny.

Tagged by my friend Christy, from the Lowcountry...
Once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 random things, facts, goals, or habits about yourself. At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged, listing their names and why you chose them. Don't forget to leave them a comment (you're it) and to read your blog for instructions. You can't tag a person who has tagged you.

01. i LOVE to sleep. i can sleep a solid 10 hours, easy. my bed is one of my favorite places in the world, oh how i love my bed.
02. i HATE getting up in the mornings. i have never been a morning person. i hit the snooze button. a lot.
03. green mountain coffee is my favorite. it's fair trade and that's important to me.
04. i once slept in the woods by myself. i had to for college. i would have never chose to do such a foolish thing if i wasn't forced to. it was just as scary and lonely as you would think it would be. a critter ran over my sleeping bag while i was laying there in the dark. i sorta flipped out.
05. i enjoy doing crunches. i like how it feels.
06. stretching is contagious to me. if i see someone else stretching, i must stretch. actually, even just thinking about stretching is making me want to stretch. i'll try to wait til i'm done with this.
07. i want to become a 46er. [hike the 46 high peaks of the adks] it's on my life to do list.
08. i have a horrible memory. i read that many in my generation do because we rely so heavily on computers and technology. yikes. i do love the card game 'memory'. perhaps if i play more my memory will improve.
09. i like ice cream. a lot. cappuccino crunch is my absolute favorite. blondie's is my favorite place to get cappuccino crunch because a small is big enough for 2 people.
10. i get overwhelmed by garbage. really. where does it all go? have you ever seen the gazillions of garbage bags lining the streets of nyc? i practically cringe every time i throw something in the garbage. recycle reduce reuse.

i don't believe i'm going to tag anyone, i'm a party pooper. well i'm only half a party pooper - i filled out mine. but if you do one i will read it and enjoy it.

tough job, but somebody's gotta do it...

i love my job. my boss is very good to me.

she gave me her bono card so i could use her gas points.
i got 0.80/gallon off!

then these were sitting on my desk when i got to work [from the garden of my boss].
sure i might have to deal with the smell of an occasional dead mouse at work, and i may know more about tractor parts then most men. but my job perks sure rock.

high school.

high school was many moons ago. i just got a good reminder of that. in the newspaper is an announcement for the bhs class of 98 reunion. yikes! that's right folks, i graduated in the 90's. like when 90210 was on tv [although i wasn't allowed to watch it], and roller blades were cutting edge and it was cool to wear a scrunchie on your wrist. i have very pleasant memories of high school. i was so young and carefree. my biggest worry was which concert i would go to next. i had my whole life ahead of me and just knew i could conquer the world. so now the question is: to go or not to go to the reunion?

another fabulous weekend in the adks! justin and i joined my seester lyndsay and her husband andy on our first [together] backpacking trip. we left friday afternoon [after turning around to get our hiking shoes - somewhat important on a hiking trip] with our country sweet pizza from ralph & rosies. mmm. we arrived at the trailhead around 10pm. [of course we stopped for ice cream - pierces always stop for ice cream]. lynz & i slept in the car [not so much] & the boys slept right outside the car. in the morning we set off on our great adventure at 6:45am.

fresh faced & ready to go.

i've got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight...

indiana jones poptart for bfast. i'm so ready to go.

we hiked in 5 miles...lots of rocks, lots of mud.

and set up our tents. aren't they cute?!
we saw a snake eat a frog right next to andy & lyx's tent - that wasn't so cute.

it felt so good to take the packs off. notice me happily drinking water in the back. that didn't last so long. that's right folks, we ran out of water. genius.

the 'trail' often looked like this.

lunch break. pb&j and/or tuna wraps. this is about the time we noticed, man there's like a million black flies and they're eating us. if you've never encountered black flies, you don't want to - they're ruthless. totally and completely ruthless. bug spray, you might think. guess again. even our special 'black fly begone' did little.

desperate attempt to escape the black flies.
i was going to count my bites, but i lost count after 32.

we got to a trail junction called times square. from there we hiked 45 minutes, then realized we were headed west not south. this meant we had to hike 45 minutes back to times square to get on the right trail. major bummer. by this point we were out of water, it was quite hot, and the black flies were still eating us alive. as in major attack of black flies. so not pleasant. the last part of the hike was quite intense with the above noted conditions.

but we are soopa tough and we made it to santanoni peak!

santanoni is 14th out of the 46 peaks in elevation. the view from the top was totally breathtaking.

some hot hiking legs. this was a tough hike, but we had lots & lotsa of fun with andy & lyx.

team z-lite. matching sleeping pads, how cute.

love my hiking buddy. 3 high peaks down, 43 to go!

love you andy & lyx. we'll have to do it again soon...minus the black flies. plus water. minus the tent that's not waterproof. xo.

last stop in the adirondacks - mary's bakery! very critical. best donuts. in the world. maybe even the universe.

more pics here.

summer=fresh flowers in the house.
this bouquet brightened my day.
matter of fact, i think i will take it to a friend who's been on my mind.
hopefully it will brighten her day.

a wonderfully intense and dramatic finish to the bachelorette. i was pleasantly surprised that she chose jesse. jason seems like a nice enough guy, but i felt jesse was the underdog and there's just something in me that must root for the underdog. plus jesse said deanna was way out of his league and that's so stinkin sweet.
although justin and i were considering riding horses in the ocean tonight, i think my reality may just be sorting through the mountain of papers and magazines that has developed on my desk.

what a day...

i've always wanted to see a beaver slap his tail at me. well today was my day because it happened not just once, but twice. how crazy is that?! justin & i went out kayaking [thanks rindy!] right down the street from where we live. we paddled by 2 beaver lodges & as we came upon the first, we saw the beaver swimming away from the lodge & he slapped his tail at us. then on our way back in, we were trying to manuver around some rocks & were close to the bank and we heard something running down the bank right at us. a beaver jumped in the creek and slapped his tail at us as he swam away. what a day!

the world is so full of a number of things.
i'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.
...robert louis stevenson...

it's 82 out.
there's a cool breeze.
my flowers look spectacular.
the sweet smell of lavender greets me as i step outside.
a perfect summer day in lovely western new york.
