linco bean.

i love this crazy cat.

justin and i watched him and cai the other day. mand came to pick them up. as linc walked out the door he yelled, "bye marmo! thanks so much!" quite possibly the smartest and funniest 2 year old alive. love my linco bean.

tea + a blanket.

today when i called to check in with j he mentioned that he was cold and just wanted tea and a blanket. how could i resist such a simple request for such a sweet boy.

i delivered a steaming cup of chai and a fleece blanket. plus who doesn't like a surprise visit at work? i love the cooler seasons where it feels so good to curl up in a warm blanket with a hot cup of tea. i don't love that our boiler is currently broke and it was 48 in here the other morning when we woke up. good thing we're tough cookies.

green mountains: part II

we're #1...also i'm pointing to our campsite.

view from owl's head mountain.

this porcupine smiled at us!

1st ever porcupine i saw. unless roadkill counts?

my mountain man built me a blazing warm fire.

it was in the 30's at night.

if i look a little red it's because i ran up a mountain,

trying to keep up with my man.

vermont's longest cascading waterfall

[we couldn't see the beginning or the end].

like a pro.

spruce mountain.

we had perfect hiking weather.

the unload. good to know...

the car is right up yonder.
if only...

i could always cook outside

this would be a st. honore cake from the marshfield bakery.

cream puffs dipped in caramel and whatnot...words. cannot. describe.

my favorite benn diner. mmmmm.

vegetarian chili with jalapeno cornbread.

the cutest diner you ever did see.

to the end.

green mountains: part I

our trip started out with possibly my worst nights sleep ever. we like to start our trip to vermont the night before so we can wake up and eat at dot's. [so worth driving 5 hours for breakfast] however, when we pull in at midnight it's just not worth it to set up the tent, so we opt to sleep in the car. the car was packed full and the back seat was down, therefore i was able to recline my chair approximately 4 inches. turns out i don't sleep so well sitting straight up.

when our waitress found out about our fondness for dots she brought over a gourmet magazine to show us that our beloved dots was featured in the october issue. they featured my personal dots favorite: berry, berry pancakes. [blueberries, strawberries and raspberries] berry, berry good.

the leaves were spectacular as always. i love fall in vermont because there are trees. everywhere.

i also like vermont because they make what j & i refer to as sweet nectar of life. green mountain coffee. so. good.

we had to canoe to our lean-to, which turned out to be quite eventful the 1st night. the ranger wasn't present when we arrived, so we were on our own to figure out how to access the lean-to. the gate to the campground was locked, so we parked in the public access area and found a portage to kettle pond, where our lean-to was. it was about a half mile hike, partially on boardwalks because of the mud. we loaded up our canoe and we were off. or at least justin was. the loaded canoe was so heavy i couldn't even lift my end. we had to unload some items so i could actually lift my end. [i will admit, i haven't been doing my push-ups lately] i had to set the canoe down to rest every so often, but i made it! [i was so sore the next day it was hard for me to hold my toothbrush.]

we paddled [actually just j paddled...we'll get to that later] across the pond to the general area where we thought our lean-to might be and we saw someone in the woods. we told him we were looking for site 14 and he informed us his group was set up in 14. when we explained we had reserved 14 they promptly packed up and moved. but it was a bit, um, awkward. [the ranger actually eventually kicked them out of the lean-to they moved to.] the ranger was at the campground when we went back to get water and he explained to us the gate was 'dummy locked' and we could open the gate and park in the campground. also we could practically drive to the beach right across the pond from our lean-to & put our canoe in. needless to say the unload was much easier than the load-in.
our parking spot at our site:

we loved our site.

the sunset was beautiful. view from the beach across from our lean-to.
the view in the morning was equally as spectacular...this is the view laying in our lean-to at 7am:

one of the best parts of camping is camp breakfast! eggs, hash browns, bacon for the carnivores, and camp coffee. mmm.

sometimes when j and i go out paddling, i don't paddle so much. so my sweet husband only brought one paddle so i wouldn't have to paddle. however i did feel a little silly canoe camping and just riding along. it was like my own personal canoe taxi...

it's so nice to get away and spend time with my favorite person in the world. i'm glad i have someone who enjoys the great outdoors as much as i do. i'm glad we're best friends and have such an amazing time together. i'm so blessed to have someone who understands and loves me so completely.

so there's part I of our vermont trip. stay tuned for part II....

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:20

wonderful weekend!

soaking up every last possible drop of warmth/sunshine. although the high today was...

if you get the clothes out early enough, there's still time to line dry! honestly you can't beat crisp line dried sheets. there are certain chores i enjoy and hanging clothes is one of them.

a few [of many] reasons to line dry:
:: save over $100 a year on your electric bill
:: sunlight bleaches and disinfects
:: good excuse to be outside & get some fresh air
:: conserve energy and the environment
:: like i said, can't beat crisp line dried sheets!
on another note, these fine folks hung out:

and a ton of fun was had! i love, love my family! looking forward to hanging out with you guys again very soon. thanks for having us to your cozy, adorable home. your doggie is pretty dang adorable too. next time we'll get a group photo so i don't have to be so creative, ok?
