most wonderful time of the year!

we have our first christmas party this weekend. a perfect snowy evening for a christmas party. we've been playing christmas music for about a week now. we'll be in s.c. for tanksgiving [that's how the irish would say it]. when we get back it will already be december and i don't want to feel all rushed. so i'm ready to enjoy this christmas season.
a good start = eggnog. mmm.

Thursday, November 20, 2008 at work...

i love the view out the window at my job. white snowflakes falling against the red barn.

of course it was barely snowing when i took the pic, but you get the idea.

a police officer stopped by the office [we won't get into that]. after he was done talking business he looked at me and said, "you look too young to be working here, shouldn't you be in school?" guess it runs in the family since apparently lyndsay is 12. that would make me 17 so i guess maybe i should be in school.

this is how old i look. [note all the bleached hair in this pic - including my bleached highlights. amazing.]

and last but not know you work at a farm when you write a check description of: potato hit window.

recipe fo you.

black bean and sweet potato chili

* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 large yellow onion, chopped
* 1 red bell pepper, cored, seeded, and chopped
* 1 green bell pepper, cored, seeded, and chopped
* 2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and diced
* 2 medium sweet potatoes, diced
* 3 large garlic cloves, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
* 2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
* 1 to 2 teaspoons sea salt
* 1 to 2 teaspoons ground cumin
* 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
* 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
* 1 to 2 teaspoons dried basil
* 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
* 1 bay leaf
* 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
* 2 (14-ounce) cans vegetable or chicken broth
* 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
* Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
* Garnishes: chopped fresh cilantro, green onion slices

Heat oil in a heavy large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat; add onion. Reduce heat to medium, and cook, stirring occasionally, about 10 to 15 minutes or until tender. Add bell peppers, jalapeño, and sweet potato; cook, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Stir in garlic, and cook about 1 minute. Add chili powder and next 7 ingredients; stir and cook 1 minute. Add tomatoes and broth. Simmer, uncovered, about 30 minutes. Stir in beans, and continue to cook 10 minutes. Remove bay leaf, and stir in lime juice.
got it here!

i recommend going on the lighter side with the spices. i like spicy. but everyone's noses were running it was so spicy. ha! and we drank almost an entire gallon of milk. and heather doesn't even like milk. it's very very yummy chili. i will be making it again soon for sure.

-allegany cabining-

we were planning on camping/stargazing this weekend. then the forecast said rain, rain and more rain. stargazing is kind of boring when it rains. our backup plan involved a cabin, which was a beautiful thing. it was a rustic and cozy cabin. we stayed in front of the stone fireplace for much of the weekend. good times great company!

the girls may or may not have beat the boys a gazillion times at catch phrase. undefeated. booya.

trusty air mattress pump broke. we were a wee bit lightheaded. delirious, you could say. [that's for my fellow catch phrasers] ;)

our breakfast chef. a fine looking chef!

there was lots of fishing. j came up with a list of why this was a life changing fishing trip. i guess it's very exciting to catch this fish. he does have pretty spots.

while the fishers were fishing in the cold v & i found a heated bathroom and had a nice hot shower.

where we spent most of our time, as close to the toasty fire as possible.

our fancy table setting...

for our yummy sweet potato chili.

the boys did some climbing.

fresh air & long talks.
fires & sleeping bags.
friends & laughter.
as v would say...we're rich!

our backyard is yellowish goldish. it's glorious. with these warm days we've been having i wanna go wrap myself in yellowish goldish leaves and stay there.

PLUS it's like a bonus clothes drying day. let's be honest, it's not every day you can line dry clothes in november in wny. it's already snowed like a million [three] times.

fell on these.

i love little things. they're just so cute and...little. i like to find the cutest little leaves i can to put on the table. try to contain your awww's....

hope your day is glorious too.

.song of my heart.

i'm pretty sure if we could hear angels sing they would sound like brooke fraser.

this is the prayer of my heart...

heal my heart and make it clean.
open up my eyes to the things unseen.
show me how to love like you have loved me.
break my heart for what breaks yours.
everything i am for Your kingdom's cause.
as i walk from earth into eternity.

it's so easy to get caught up with my own life. i pray that i would see others as God sees them and that i would love like He loves.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

mallory desired a fall adventure we were off. we were going to start at a corn maize but the corn was cut. so we headed to buttermilk falls. it's so amazing we live in a place where we can visit huge, beautiful cascading waterfalls!

it was actually a fall/winter adventure because it was snowing and c-c-cold.

to warm up we had a little boogie down.

we enjoyed some local fare.

enjoyed the foliage [mal, you are way too cute!]...

...a family photo...

love my mallory!

for some reason we didn't get any other photos. we went and got fresh donuts and hot apple cider. we finished the evening at d&r depot. i got my favorite - pittsburgh salad. cause seriously, you can't go wrong with a salad that has french fries on it.
november is here, which means christmas is around the corner! woot woot. love, love, love this time of year. happy november!
